Cargill Animal Nutrition & Health (ANH) has completed a significant expansion of its Engerwitzdorf, Austria production facility, increasing its micronutrition manufacturing capacity by 50%. The enhanced facility can now produce 30,000 metric tons per year, supporting rising global demand for high-quality, science-driven micronutrition solutions for animal health and performance.
This major investment underscores Cargill’s long-term commitment to innovation, sustainable growth, and customer success across the rapidly expanding micronutrition sector.
Driving Growth in the Micronutrition & Animal Health Sector
Cargill’s expanded facility strengthens its ability to deliver advanced micronutrition solutions—going beyond traditional feed additives to examine how microelements interact within the animal microbiome. This precision-based approach supports improved digestive health, enhanced performance and productivity, and more efficient resource utilization.

In 2024, Cargill formally launched its Micronutrition & Health Solutions business, uniting the scientific expertise of Diamond V (acquired 2017), Delacon (acquired 2022), and Provimi (acquired 2011). The integrated portfolio has achieved double-digit annual growth for three consecutive years, demonstrating accelerating demand for science-based nutrition technologies including phytogenics, postbiotics, enzymes, and anti-mycotoxin agents.
“Our Micronutrition & Health Solutions business is a culmination of our industry-leading capabilities across phytogenics, postbiotics, anti-mycotoxin agents, enzymes and other performance-enhancing nutrition solutions,” said Gilles Houdart, Global Head of the Micronutrition & Health Solutions business. “This investment not only expands production capacity—it enables safer operations, improved efficiency, and more sustainable manufacturing.”
State-of-the-Art Operations to Support Sustainable Growth
Since opening in 2020, the Engerwitzdorf facility operated with two large silos for raw materials. The expansion adds six new silos, enabling production of up to 30,000 metric tons annually—enough to fortify up to 200 million metric tons of feed.
To support this growth, Cargill implemented a range of operational, safety, and sustainability upgrades:
Operational Efficiency
- 90% automation across picking, mixing, and loading processes
- A fully automated container lifting system moving 42,000 meters in altitude per shift each month—equal to climbing Mount Everest five times
- An in-house laboratory performing 25,000+ analyses annually to ensure quality and consistency of raw materials and finished products
Enhanced Worker Safety
- Two fully automated narrow-aisle forklifts remove worker interaction with mobile equipment, reducing known safety risks
- A built-in compressor system unloads products while minimizing noise, dust, and airborne particulates
Environmental Responsibility
- Facility powered 100% by renewable energy
- 70% of daily power from hydropower and 30% from onsite solar
- Biomass heating system fueled entirely by locally sourced wood chips
“This is truly a state-of-the-art facility,” said Michael Fischer, Manufacturing & Supply Chain Lead for the Micronutrition & Health Solutions business. “Automation is transforming how we operate—boosting safety, enhancing precision, and enabling us to scale production to support animal health and performance worldwide.”
A Continued Commitment to Innovation and Customer Success
Cargill’s investment in the Engerwitzdorf expansion reflects its global strategy to deliver innovative, sustainable, and science-backed nutrition solutions. As demand for high-performance micronutrition continues to grow, the upgraded facility reinforces Cargill’s ability to support customers with reliable supply, advanced research, and proven expertise.
