Leading independent pet food manufacturer Burgess Pet Care has invested £3.36 million in a five year programme of site upgrades to increase production capacity, efficiency and recyclability across its Yorkshire manufacturing operation.
The multi-year investment supports Burgess’ ambition to grow its own-label production partnerships alongside its well-established portfolio of branded products, helping more retailers and pet food brands access sustainable UK manufacturing expertise.

“This investment futureproofs our operations while ensuring we can continue to deliver high-quality, sustainable products for both our own brands and our growing base of private label partners,” said Suzanne Moyes, Deputy MD of Burgess Pet Care. “We’ve focused on upgrades that enhance energy efficiency, improve recyclability, and expand our production capabilities to meet increasing market demand.”
Upgrades at the company’s Goole site have included solar panels, packing lines that accommodate more recyclable packaging, enhanced energy monitoring, new silos, refurbished offices and a growing electric vehicle fleet, delivering measurable improvements in throughput, material recovery, and sustainability performance.
The investment forms a key part of Burgess’ ongoing sustainability strategy, which aims to reduce waste, increase recyclable packaging, and cut carbon emissions across its operations. This supports the growing number of brand partners prioritising environmental responsibility and supply chain transparency.
“More and more of our retail and brand partners are setting ambitious sustainability goals,” added Suzanne. “By investing in our site and processes, we’re making it easier for them to meet those targets without compromising on quality or efficiency.”
The expanded facilities allow Burgess to offer flexible own-label manufacturing solutions, from bespoke formulations to full packaging and distribution support, all while maintaining its BRC AA* rating for five consecutive years.
Peter Lancaster, Head of Marketing said: “As a business, we’ve always kept animal welfare and nutrition at the heart of everything we do. We have an exceptional amount of in-house expertise including a qualified vet, a Chartered Biologist and multiple people with under graduate or postgraduate degrees in animal nutrition.
“This team of experts ensures every product we make, whether it’s for our own brands or for our private label partners, meets the same high standards of quality and care, and that means ensuring our production facilities are the very best they can be.”
