Feed Compounder magazine was first published in 1981 by HGM Publications, owned and run by Howard Mounsey.

The magazine gained rapid acceptance by British feed compounders and within a short time was seen and talked about by most people working within the industry — a situation which happily remains the case today..

HGM Publications became a partnership when Howard’s wife Jane joined the business full-time in 1983. Jane brought her experience in journalism to bear and established many of the features that readers still enjoy..

Howard and Jane retired in 1997, HGM Publications continued to operate until November 2003 when Howard and Jane’s son Andrew and his wife Fiona took over and the company changed its name to Pentland Publishing Ltd. They were later joined by their son Ryan who still writes the Feed Compounder’s ‘Feed Production Update’

The family continued to publish it until 2025 when it was taken over by its current publishers Euromedia Associates Ltd, also a family business with a strong background in publishing. Emma Hatherall and Julie Cross have taken over the day to day running of the magazine, alongside editor Nick Lavageur. From their base in Lancashire they are looking forward to re-introducing the Out & About feature with visits to feed companies and their suppliers and maintaining strong links with the UK and Ireland animal feed industry.

Feed Compounder  continues to have very strong links with the Society of Feed Technologists and FEFAC. Over the years it has become the publication of choice for animal feed and feed supplement manufacturers, mill managers and nutritionists, additive suppliers and production managers. It is also regularly requested by universities, government offices and research establishments.
